All about Blacktail Creative

blacktail creative

Blacktail Creative is a full-service Graphic Design Company. I design logos, websites, and branded assets for business owners who are open-minded and invested in their businesses. If you are excited about building your brand, so am I!

The most important part of my process is getting to know my clients. I listen to your ideas and goals and refine those tidbits of information into powerful, honest and impactful brand identity systems. My goal as a designer is to bring your brand to life. I have all the tools to turn your napkin sketch into a logo and ensure that your visuals are telling your story the way you envision it.

I am a traditional designer and follow old-school rules around graphic design. Great design combines balance, contrast, hierarchy, rhythm and unity. Before colour, punchy animations and effects, a logo has to stand up in black and white. When something is designed well, you don’t have to think about it. My work is solid. My files are tidy, and print shops appreciate that I’m not going to send them a hot mess.

My name is Ally Easterbrook. I am the brains, designer, bookkeeper and creative director behind Blacktail Creative. I wear many hats - but they all seem to fit just right. I studied Graphic Design at Vancouver Island University, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Design in Graphic Design (Class of 2017).

My motivation to become a graphic designer stemmed from my boundless creative energy and entrepreneurial spirit. For as long as I can remember, I was always making something. I grew up in a small town in the northern interior of BC, and I can credit the lack of things to do for giving me a vivid and delightful imagination.

I had ample opportunities to paint backdrops for local shows, draw event posters, design T-shirts and dabble in restaurant menu layouts. Ultimately, all paths lead to here. I can’t thank the parents, teachers and community members of McBride enough. Without their support and encouragement along the way, who knows what I’d be up to!

In my small windows of spare time, you'll find me drawing with posca markers, working on my gecko terrarium, or cooking Instagram-worthy dinners. I'm a mom to two small gremlins who fill every day with joy and adventure.

I’m nerdy about art history, especially Hellenistic period Greek sculpture. I like a buttery chardonnay, adventures with my family and reality TV shows set in Fiji. I always have music playing, and my taste is broad. I try to see the beauty in things around me, and often capture these musings through photography and sketching.

My first love was snowboarding, but my knees have decided otherwise. These days, you’ll find me on my boat prawning, playing outside with my husband or sitting around a campfire with friends. If I had time for side quests, I'd be somewhere in Europe looking at old art and eating fresh pasta. Until then, I'm perfectly content watching my kids colour and making Kraft Dinner. Life is good.
